Resubmission of evidence filed to investigate former FSC Chief
Resubmissions of evidence file and documents have been filed into the investigation of former Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC) chief executive officer, Abdul Khan.
An investigation was ordered by FSC to the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) in 2016 to investigate for alleged abuse of office during Mr Khan’s tenure as CEO of FSC and its executive chair. Minister for Sugar and Multi-Ethnic Affairs Charan Jeath Singh, while visiting the Labasa Sugar Mill yesterday said he was informed by the Permanent Secretary for Sugar, Yogesh Karan, on the resubmission.
He said the resubmission to FICAC included a whole set of evidence files in the matter after the initial submission file was reported missing by FICAC.
Mr Singh said FICAC had started the investigation.
“We don’t want to prolong this investigation for too long,” Mr Singh said. “We want to actually come out very quickly and say what exactly transpired and get FICAC to prosecute and charge them,” Mr Singh said. The Minister said this would be a vital learning experience to those in the industry and warned all FSC employees and members in high executive positions not to misuse their authority and power.
“This should hopefully give a lesson to others who are currently in the mill, in the executive level. Don’t do things that are not right for this industry and country,” he said. Mr Singh said he would leave it to the Minister responsible to take action on them, saying the coalition Government was committed to ensuring justice prevailed.
