Iinvestors are facing multiple bottlenecks that discourage new investments and re-investment activities in Fiji. And this is hindering major investment projects.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Cooperatives, SMEs and Communications, Manoa Kamikamica said: “We need to resolve these issues.

“We need to harmonise and streamline processes to remove bottlenecks.

“This is one of my top priorities and I am currently working out ways to solve the issue of unnecessary regulatory compliance and administrative requirements by approving agencies.”

He said an example was the Laucala Island Resort Hangar at the Nadi International Airport.

The $30 million project was given a construction stop order in September last year. Mr Kamikamica said with no clear reasoning, one of the major investors in the world was put in the dark.

“It was potentially quite concerning, they had already

spent $9 million and they got stopped,” he said.

On Monday, the stop order was lifted, confirmed Mr Kamikamica.

“They are a big spender in Fiji and they will bring in the big names, millionaires and hopefully they will say good things about Fiji so that we can gain more investors.”

He added that the resort was

overwhelmed with the decision made by the Government.
