Arecently established Vu Care foundation has assisted underprivileged patients by donating adult diapers for them at the Labasa Hospital.

The foundation is a North-based group formed three months ago and this was its first assistance programme for hospital patients.

The foundation sought the assistance of Minister for Sugar and Multi-Ethnic Affairs, Charan Jeath Singh, a few months ago for the purchase of adult diapers for the assistance programme they wished to undertake.

On Thursday, Foundation president/founder, Amelia Simmons, thanked Mr Singh for the $1000 worth of support to purchase these diapers for patients admitted at the men’s and women’s medical wards. It was the perfect occasion with Mr Singh being the chief guest at the handover ceremony of these diaper packs to the staff of Labasa Hospital for disbursement to the patients.

The Vu Care foundation has 25 active members with interest generating from other members of the public.

Ms Simmons said they had formed a collaborative partnership with the Labasa Chamber of Commerce and Industries and the Labasa Ratepayers Association. Ms Simmons said she shared a soft space for elderly patients because her father was also admitted and treated well by the staff.

The foundation’s goal has always been to provide immediate assistance to the needy, poor and sick as well as work alongside all relevant stakeholders within Labasa.

They foundation recently assisted victims of a house fire at Vuniyalala, Labasa with food packs and clothes assistance.

Mr Singh said he remained committed to assisting any projects targeted at helping patients to recover and prepare themselves for care.

“We are committed to assisting the foundation in the future to help more lives improve,” he said.

Hospital administrative officer, Jone Naituivau, appreciated the assistance of the Vu foundation and presence of Mr Singh to lend help to patients.

He complimented staff at the hospital for rising to their call of duty and ensuring their patients were well looked after.
