Foundation to construct community training centre
The Vu Care foundation has set its sight on fulfilling its core goal of immediate assistance to people faced with housing, health problems, and basic needs.
This will be by constructing a community training centre and subsistence housing.
It is a long-term goal of its president, Amelia Simmons, who is confident in achieving with support from her active members and relevant stakeholders.
Simmons, who is also the founder of this foundation formed three months ago, is adamant this development would be crucial in changing the lives of many displaced families and povertystricken individuals.
Ms Simmons, said the community centre would act as a training space to educate and impart entrepreneurial skills to individuals.
She said they want to create independent self-supporting individuals instead of waiting for assistance.
The subsistence housing initiative would be similar to the public rental board flats and this was aimed to greatly assist low-income and cash-deprived families.
“All these plans will eventuate in due course and there is not a specific timeframe, but this project will happen,” she said.
The group, with the support of Minister of Sugar and Multi-Ethnic Affairs, Charan Jeath Singh, donated $1000 worth of adult diapers to patients at the men’s and women’s medical ward.
She received assurance from the Minister for Sugar and Multi-Ethnic Affairs, Charan Jeath Singh that more assistance would follow on a need basis. The group also assisted house fire victims at Vuniyalala in Labasa last week with food and cloth packs.
