Lautoka residents urged to report illegal activities
Residents of the Lautoka are encouraged to report to the Lautoka City Council’s rangers if they come across any illegal activities practised in a public space.
The council said its rangers played a vital role in enforcing key logistic services within the city boundary.
It is headed by Charlie Saukuru, who is the chief ranger and team supervisor.
There are nine rangers including Mr Saukuru.
In a statement, the council said that its main objective was to ensure that Lautoka City bylaws were enforced within the city boundaries including the enforcement of illegal operations of taxis, minibuses, carriers and other illegal operators.
“Please be mindful that city rangers are your friends and are there to protect you and your city,” the council said.
“If you see any illegal activities happening on the streets, you can lodge a complaint and they will assist where possible.”
The council said the department was also responsible for controlling noise nuisance around the city area as well as monitoring all activities including open-air services.
City rangers are available to serve residents from 8am to 5pm on weekdays and 9am to 1pm on Saturdays. “The extra hours are depending on the major events that take place in Lautoka City and when assistance is needed by other stakeholders, like the Fiji Police Force for joint operation,” said the council. “The other councils have the department as an enforcement unit with the same responsibilities and the LCC department is called the City Rangers with enforcement responsibilities.”
To raise any complaint, residents can visit the council office located at the Civic Building or contact the city ranger on 9908555 or email on cityranger@lautokacitycouncil. com.fj or charley@lautokacitycouncil.com.fj
