ISSUED FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER FORECASTING CENTRE NADI AT 3:30PM ON FRIDAY THE 13TH OF JANUARY 2023.
A HEAVY RAIN ALERT REMAINS IN FORCE FOR NORTHERN DIVISION, NORTHERN LAU GROUP, YASAWA AND MAMANUCA GROUP, AND NORTHERN LAU GROUP, NORTHWESTERN[ LAUTOKA, BA , TAVUA AND RAKIRAKI] AND INTERIOR VITI LEVU.
Situation: A low pressure system with an associated trough lies slow moving over Fiji. Associated cloud, rain and showers are expected to affect the country till next week.
Forecast to midnight tonight for the Fiji group: Periods of rain, heavy at times and few thunderstorms over Northern division, Northern Lau group, Yasawa and Mamanuca group, and northern Lau group, Northwestern[ Lautoka, Ba, Tavua and Rakiraki] and interior Viti Levu. Isolated heavy falls likely. Rain easing from tomorrow. Occasional showers heavy at times elsewhere. Isolated thunderstorms, with heavy falls expected especially in the afternoon or evening. Localised heavy falls may led to flash flooding of low lying areas. Moderate to fresh northwest to southeast winds. Moderate to rough seas.
Outlook for Sunday :Cloudy periods with some showers over Yasawa and Mamanuca group, the interior and western parts of Viti Levu [greater Korolevu-Sigatoka-Nadi-LautokaBa-Tavua-Rakiraki area], Vatulele, Kadavu, Macuata and Northern Bua province. Elsewhere, fine apart from afternoon showers. Isolated thunderstorms, with heavy falls expected.
For Navua / Suva / Nausori: Occasional showers with isolated thunderstorms and heavy falls expected especially in the afternoon or evening.
