‘Your Work Is Your Legacy’
Your work will be your legacy, Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources, Filimoni Vosarogo said, in his address to staff that are constructing a borehole pump house for the multi-ethnic Settlement of Sariyawa No.1 in the Momi Bay area, Nadroga.
In his first ministerial visit to the
Western Division, he said he had always heard about Government services in the rural communities, and was elated to witness it firsthand.
“This is the first time for me to replace the wig and gown with overalls and to replace sandals with boots and to join you where government has called you to serve the people.
“The work you do directly impacts people’s lives and that you help in lessening the burden of everyday life to bring to these communities a necessity such as water.
“There are no words really to show my personal appreciation for your dedication.
“You leave your families behind to be here and help these families. “This will be your legacy to leave behind with these communities.” In 2019, a joint field excursion was undertaken by Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources, Water Authority of Fiji, Commissioner Western Division’s Office, Department of Water and Sewerage to focus on communities identified as ‘Red Zones’ in the Western Division.
The zonest are the first and hardest hit during dry seasons.
As a result, five communities was selected for detailed groundwater
investigations based on a few criterion including population, lack of adequate water sources and potential for contamination.
One of these communities was Sariyawa Settlement No.1.
The new borehole will cater for 23 households with an estimated daily demand of 8,000 litres.
The minister’s three-day tour of the Western Division included visits to projects ranging from hydrology to land subdivisions and the mining sector in Nadroga, Nadi, Lautoka, Vatukoula and Rakiraki.
