Old Scholars Express Joy at Reunion
Former students of the Saweni, Lautoka-based Pt Vishnu Deo Memorial College, finally got to host their alumni mini-reunion. This is after months of postponement because of the COVID-19 pandemic
There was great joy and excitement, as members of various classes arrived for the gathering, at the Sailors Beach Fiji in Wailoaloa,
Nadi last Saturday.
The theme of the night was yellow, white and black.
Nadi-Sigatoka special administrator chair Lawrence Kumar officiated at the event where he commended the alumni.
He said vision and mission of the alumni could only be achieved by taking such baby steps.
“Hats off to Waisea, who is the brainchild of organising such a beautiful event as such. Not all stories have a picture but all pictures
have a story,” Mr Kumar said
“This is a great picture to see a group of former students reunite after a lapse of many years. No doubt this will double the bond and improve networking as well.” He urged others to join those taking the lead by giving their endless support.
“I do understand there is a call to host an inaugural Fiji reunion which is planned sometime in July this year in Lautoka, so all the best for that.”
Coordinator Waisea Nasokia, of Class ’99, said this was the first step to better things.
“I have learned that alumni based overseas do have an enterprising network and continue to host their reunion from time to time, unfortunately in our backyard no one quite wants to take the lead,” he said. “Interestingly, local alumni members have expressed interest to be part of the reunion on numerous occasions but no one was able to organise.”
Summing up the reunion, Emily Narisia, Class of ’89, said it was such a beautiful symbol of the love and friendships from days at Vishnu!
“What a wonderful and heartwarming reunion,” she said.
