Xuguang Acknowledges Years of Cultural Exchange with Fiji
The Spring Festival known as the Chinese New Year is the most important event for Chinese people iincluding those living overseas.
It is a time for families to reunite and friends to gather.
According to the Chinese lunar calendar, January 22 is the first day of the upcoming Spring Festival and the beginning of the Year of the Rabbit.
During the official launching of the festival as well as the exhibition of Discover the Beauty of Snow and Ice in China, Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy of Fiji, Wang Xuguang said rabbit ranked 4th in the Chinese zodiac, matching the time slot from 5am to 7am in China’s ancient timing method that they called the twelve earthly branches.
“Therefore, it has long been regarded as a symbol of hope and infinite vitality.
“People born in the Year of the Rabbit are believed to be smart, nimble and kind-hearted, upholding a positive attitude for life,” he said.
Mr Xuguang said the photo exhibition of Discover the Beauty of Snow and Ice in China not only brings the beauty but also the culture.
“Actually, the ancestors of northern China have a long tradition of celebrating the New Year by holding horse racing game in snow and ice and other entertainment and sports,” he added.
“The great success of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games had led 300 million Chinese people fall in love with snow and ice sports, making a historic contribution to the development of the world Olympic movement.”
Friendship between China-Fiji
At the beginning of last year, the launching of the Year of the Tiger stamps was witnessed.
The Bula Tiger accompanied us through the 2022 which is a year coming out of the aftermath of COVID-19.
“In the past year, China Cultural Center in Fiji overcame various difficulties and worked closely with their Fijian partners, held varieties of cultural exchange activities,” he said.

And to all Fijian friends who contribute to our cultural exchanges.”
