Dipshay Krishnan Reddy has had to contend with medical difficulties ever since he had an appendectomy (surgery to remove the appendix when it is infected) in 2017.

He suffered an infection which led to complications a few months later. When he reached Year 10 things became worse for him.

Yet despite all these difficulties, none of this deterred him for doing well in his studies.

“I was sick more often and till June 2018, I went to school and then was suggested to redo my Year 10 as I had missed many classes,” he said.

In 2019, he restarted with his Year 10. “I successfully completed Year 10 in 2019 and then all my medical issues were solved,” he said.

Fiji Year 13 exam results

He received his Fiji Year 13 Examination results and now the 20-year-old is among the top five place-gettters in Tavua College where 100 students sat for Year 13 Exams. The Tavua College student scored 363 marks out of 400.

In his advice to others, he said: “Give your best and leave the rest to God. “I believe that if a person works hard and he/she is willing to do something nothing can stop them. All we need is to have faith in ourselves and that’s most important.” He thanked his teachers, particularly, Lynn Deo, (English teacher) and Sachindran Sami, (Geography teacher), for their assistances.

His source of inspiration and motivation is his family (parents and siblings).

“My parents never expected higher grades from me and whatever marks I got they always complimented me. It made me

realise I had to do something to make them proud,” he said.

Future aspirations

“I got an interest in the field of social work and psychology. social work and psychology have various job opportunities,” he said

His mother Subadra Devi, 51, said: “Even though my son has gone through a lot in his life he never gave up.”

His father, Rajendra Kumaran, 60, a sugar cane farmer was overjoyed.

“I am happy. Despite having so many medical struggles he managed to obtain a good marks,” Mr Kumaran said.
