Grateful Parents Use $200 Assistance to Buy School Materials
Suva City was a hive of activity with parents buying stationery and education materials after receiving the $200 back-to-school support.
Most parents, who received the Government assistance on Wednesday night flocked to the city for early shopping before school begins on February 6. Funds were distributed via MPaisa and MyCash.
Most stores had to close their doors occasionally as people patiently waited for their time to be served.
Arieta Tabuakoro and her eldest daughter, Luce Kay, made it early into the city to buy the items was on their shopping list. Ms Tabuakoro has two daughters; hence she received $400. “This money has enabled us to buy school uniforms, books and shoes,” she said. “We are really grateful for this assistance.”
Ms Tabuakoro runs a sandwich business in Lami and the assistance came as a huge relief. Roynesh Naidu and his wife, Radhika Goundar, also received $400 for their two children.
They were able to buy new sets of uniforms and sandals for them. “The assistance is more than enough,” Mr Naidu said.
“$400 is enough to get my kids their stationery.”
Saleshni Devi is preparing her son, Kristiven Kumar, for secondary school.
She said it was quite expensive to accommodate his booklist.
She thanked the Government for providing relief to her family. Of the $400 received she used $200 for her son in primary school.
Marica Vosanaua of Nanuku Settlement said the Government’s help was timely.
“Most of us were affected because of the COVID-19 pandemic and this help is just what we needed,” she said after receiving $400. “This has lifted a huge burden off us.”
