She taught at the then Fiji College of Advanced Education, now Fiji National University (FNU), the University of the South Pacific, a brief stint at the University of Auckland and the University of Guam in the Northern Pacific.
Professor Unaisi Nabobo- Baba created history by being the first indigenous Fijian woman to be appointed professor at a university.
She is married to former politician Tupeni Baba and is currently the Acting Dean of College of Humanities and Education at the Fiji National University.
The story of this Qarani woman from Gau in the Lomaiviti Group is of course a great inspiration to many people.
She grew up as an ordinary young Fijian girl in her mother’s village in Vugalei, Tailevu where she witnessed the traditional Fijian lifestyle.
She began her educational journey at Kasavu Village school then to Vugalei District School before moving to Ballantine Memorial School in Suva.
Ms Baba’s career spans some 30 years as a secondary school teacher; she also taught at Queen Victoria School.
She taught at the Fiji College of Advanced Education (now a part of the Fiji National University (FNU), the University of the South Pacific, a brief stint at the University of Auckland and the University of Guam in the Northern Pacific.
She has more than 100 publications including books, book chapters and journal articles.
These publications reflect her ideologies on indigenous Fijian research, education, and a decolonized academic space and research methodologies in the Pacific.

The coastal side of Tailevu.
Tailevu is untouched, the amazing scenery, Nataleira is one of the best hotspot with amazing hospitality,
Oh and dolphin sightseeing at Nataleira is one to look out for.

I have two coffee spots that I love the most, Holiday Inn because of their friendly services and tasty pastries.
Bulaccino in Garden City, Rawai, their coffee really quenches my thirst after a long day of work.
Your favourite backyard spot?
Home, spending quality time with my family.
What is one place in Fiji on your bucket list and why?
Yasawa and Vatulele.
Yasawa because of its long white sandy beaches.
I admire the way they preserve their traditions, especially with tapa making.
I look forward to visiting both islands.
