Ratu Wiliame Badges Seaqaqa Primary School Prefects
President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere created an atmosphere of excitement when he badged Seaqaqa Primary School head prefects yesterday
Beni Salavuce, 14, and Viniana Rasalato, 13, said they were proud to be from the same province of Macuata as the President.
“My parents always advise me to work hard like other great leaders from Macuata who hold key positions in the nation like the President and Government ministers Biman Prasad and Charan Jeath Singh,” Beni said.
“But I want to become a Policeman because no one in my family is working in the Fiji Police Force.” The oldest of two siblings said he was surprised to be named head boy because his father, the only breadwinner in the family, was a simple yaqona farmer.
Head girl Viniana thanked teachers for their confidence in her capabilities and the opportunity to meet the President.
“I was told that he is from a nearby village, Naduri and I always wished I could see him in person,” the aspiring veterinarian of Dreketi, said.
“My parents are former teachers and surely this is a proud moment for them.”
While addressing 52 prefects at the induction, Ratu Wiliame said being a leader required commitment because one must be a role model to others and guide them on the right path.
“As a leader you need to be the mentors of support and encouragement when other students who need help approach you,” Ratu Wiliame said.
“As a prefect, always remember leadership is all about having a positive attitude, you are carrying the trust of teachers and students.” He commended the efforts of the teachers, management and parents to develop Fiji as a knowledgebased society.
