Congratulations to Suva Special School’s new head prefects

- RANOBA BAOA

It’s been a whirlwind of success as more schools celebrate and officially announce their student council leaders. A lot of great stories are coming out of these high school and primary school prefects’ induction that we’ve highlighted in recent days.

One of them is Suva Special School which announced its prefects on Friday.

Congratulations to head boy, Gideon Bulai, and head girl, Adi Salusalu Ketewai, for taking on this important leadership role.

For Gideon, he began at mainstream learning but three years into primary school, his parents noticed his learning capabilities were slower than most students and so they did the needful.

Since then, he has exceeded expectations.

His mother, Tokasa Kubunameca, said: “For him, he does not have any special needs.

“It’s just how he understands things in school that prompted us to enroll him at this school.”

As for head girl, Adi Salusalu Ketewai, she hopes to become a teacher and to pay it forward to the school that helped shape her learning capabilities.

In Suva Grammar School, Maleli Waqaivolavola, was announced head boy.

Being raised by a single mother was challenging after losing his father when he was in Year One.

“I felt the world had betrayed me, I almost gave up hope, but I picked up and carried on,” he said.

This is thanks to his mother’s never-ending guidance, love and nurturing.

“I’m grateful she raised me well. I just want to thank the Lord Almighty for always being there.” The youngest of the five siblings wants to become a professional rugby player whilst pursuing aviation studies.

As for head girl, Sokoveti Tuisese, she is the first female in her family to be badged with this position. “Being given this duty as the head girl, I do believe through the help of God we will combat these challenges,” she said.

She wants to be a human resource officer.
