After hours Veterinarian service

-

Satish Nakched, Suva

A veterinarian, or vet, is an animal doctor that is responsible for diagnosing and treating animals who are sick, injured or need routine care.

Their duties include giving advice to humans on how to properly care for their pets, administering medication and performing surgery animals.

Veterinarians are the doctors of the animal world. Their goal is to preserve quality of life and alleviate pain, while making sure that they work with pet owners as best as they can to help them care for their pets.

Veterinarians improve animals’ lives, and that may even translate to better health outcomes for humans due to the close attachment and bonding with their pets.

Due to the limitation of their service and lack of professionals available in the country, it may be a huge challenge for pet owners to attain the service of the specialist, especially in the rural areas.

However, in the Suva area, it is not so difficult during the normal hours to get the service of the vet but after hours, despite displaying the after hours contact in the media platforms, the calls are never answered.

The after hours number displayed by the veterinarian based in Walu Bay, Suva, was answered by a logging company in the West, recently.

I believe that all the veterinarians swore an oath of allegiance when graduating, where they agree to practice veterinary science ethically and conscientiously for the benefit of animal welfare, animal and human health, users of veterinary services and the community.

They endeavour to maintain the practice of veterinary science to current professional standards and will strive to improve skills and knowledge through continuing professional development.

They acknowledge that along with the privilege of acceptance into the veterinary profession comes community and professional responsibility.

They are to maintain these principles throughout their professional lives.

I only hope that they align to the oath and extend their service on 24/7 basis as doctors do to humans.

During an emergency after hours, the animals suffer a lot of pain, agony and affliction and such neglect to the welfare of animals must be eliminated.
