Head girl Alisha adds another feather to cap
Alisha Bi added another feather to her cap after being inducted as Seaqaqa Central College’s head girl on Friday. In last year’s Fiji Year 12 Certificate Examination she set a new benchmark when she scored 373 marks out of 400. The Seaqaqa lass, 18, is the eldest of three siblings and was accompanied by her parents Shabreen Bi and Abdul Amin at the induction ceremony.
“I have always worked hard to come first in class and this achievement is a blessing,” Alisha said.
“My parents couldn’t complete their secondary education because of financial difficulties so I am trying to complete their dream.”
Alisha thanked them for working hard to make sure she became the first in the family to enter university.
“My father works as a mechanic and mother does domestic duties,” she said.
“Performing my role as the head girl and becoming the dux of Year 13 will be challenging, but by grace of God I can do anything.”
She plans to lift the family’s standard of living when she becomes a doctor.
Seaqaqa Central College, which is located in Macuata Province, was built in 1979.
School head boy, Shatrugan Sami, 18, said he was surprised to be given this position.
“I come from a poor family where father, the breadwinner works as a sugarcane farmer in Vunivere, Seaqaqa,” Shatrugan said.
“During school holidays, while everyone was enjoying, I worked with him in our farm.”
He said this was a proud moment for him being the youngest of five siblings and first one in the family to be a head boy.
Aspiring to become a chartered accountant, Shatrugan thanked his teachers for having faith in him.
