Fifteen people won a year’s supply of free Rooster chicken after the official draw was done yesterday.

The winning names were drawn by members of the Roster Chicken Fijiana Drua women’s team who was at the Rooster Poultry branch in Navau, Ba.

Rooster Poultry chief executive officer, Stanley Raniga, said the company was honoured to have the women’s team attending the draw after an early morning training session.

The Fijiana Drua is the defending Super W champions.

“The draw was for the free chicken for a year promotion, so 15 lucky shoppers get to win free chickens for one whole year. The promotion ran from November to February and we received thousands of entries,” Raniga said.

“We are grateful to the Fijiana Drua team that they were able to take time off from their busy schedule. They left Sigatoka at 5am and did a training session in Ba at 8am.

“This promotion is actually done by Ashabhai and Company PTE. They are a major distributor so they ran the whole promotion.

“It’s a third straight year that we’ve run the promotion so it’s a very successful one.”

Ashabhai and Company PTE Limited director Jay Patel said the company was willing to continue backing the Fijiana Drua team. “For Rooster Chicken, I think it’s quite important that the product itself is giving back to the nation and it’s promoting sporting activities for the country.

“Everyone gains out of this sort of promotion and it is good for the nation. Rooster is all the way behind you (Drua team).

“We are there to support them doing what they’ve been doing for the past three years,” he said,

Fijiana Drua representative Kele Leawere said the team was privileged to meet the sponsors who have generously supported them financially.

“It’s important that companies like Rooster comes on board, the women need growth and by growth we mean sponsorship.

“So, the Drua women’s team is very thankful to Rooster for coming on board and help helping sponsor the team again for another year,” the former Flying Fijians star lock forward said.

“It’s always easy to go in as underdogs but this year we are going in as a team targeted by the rest of the team in the competition.

‘For us, you know, it’s always hard to go and defend the title but we are looking forward to the challenge. The ladies are preparing well, we’ve been in camp the last seven weeks.

“We are ready and we’ll go up there and to successfully defend that (Super W) title.”

Leawere said the team lost seven players and this was a chance for other players to showcase their skills.

He urged fans to come out and support the team.

“Last year we didn’t get the privilege of watching the girls play at home. W

“e have been to games in Fiji, we’re asking the fans to come out and support our women just like they’ve supported the Drua men’s team.

“We’re looking forward to all supporters and fans to come to Nadi on March 25 for our first game.

“I’m sure the girls will put on a display that all our fans and supporters will be proud of.”
