8 New Appointments in Sports Commission Board
The only existing members of the board are Peter Mazey and Rovereto Nayacalevu.
Eight new members including the chairman have been named on the Fiji National Sports Commission (FNSC) board. This was confirmed by the acting Commission chief executive officer Peter Mazey during the annual sports conference at the Harbour Point Convention Centre in Lami on Saturday.
The eight members are board chairman Maretino Nemani, Fiji Sports Council (FSC) board chairman Gilbert Vakalalabure, former Fijian Pearls and Netball Fiji secretary Lusiani Biukoto– Rokoura, Elesi Ketedromo, Simione Rasova, George Fong, Ame Naivalu and the incoming FSC chief executive officer.
The only existing members of the board are Mazey and Ministry of Youth and Sports (MYS) permanent sectary Rovereto Nayacalevu. Mazey and Nayacalevu have been on the board since 2013 and 2020 respectively.
“We have got a number of young sports people like Fong, Ketedromo
is back – she used to be with the commission and Lusi from netball, new CEO of sports and chair; so it’s a good board,” Mazey said.
“The new CEO for the council will be up to the new FSC board after they advertise the position.
“The conference is mostly about the going through the policies that will be announced by the new government and making sure we work with it. “The new thing about the Government is consultation, this is a chance that every national sporting organisation (NSO), sports and community association and staff of the MYS can put together their new ideas in the new policy and make sure it includes all the main things.
“The suggestions have been great, so we have to go through them all and make sure they go into the new policy.
“We want to table it into cabinet within a month,” he added. Meanwhile, the outgoing board members are Litiana Loabuka, Kelera Ravona, Josefa Sania, Cathy Wong, Inoke Bainimarama, Raymond Stoddart, Torika Brodie and Sera Vosaki.
