Family Inspires Head Girl Raina
Swami Vivekananda College head girl Raina Kumar was inspired by her mother and brother, who once led student councils during their school days.
Raina’s mother, Sunita Kumar, a teacher, was the head girl in 1992 for Pt Vishnu Deo Memorial College in Lautoka while her older brother, Ryan Kumar, was the head boy for the same school last year.
“From the day I joined the college, I had always dreamt about donning this badge,” she said. “I feel honoured and privileged. I will be there for students, not only as role model, but to also guide them along the way. “The 2023 prefects’ body will work with students, staff and administration in taking the college to greater heights.”
As a pure science student, she plans to pursue studies in medicine and be a doctor in cardiology; She also thinks about becoming a pilot, otherwise her aim is to become a professional golfer.
She is also a keen golfer and has represented the country on a number of occasions.
Head boy Zephaniah Naivolasiga, 18, said not everybody could boast about having had the honour of leading an institution full of students, with the potential to bring out the best in others.
“Then be able to balance leadership responsibilities and schoolwork at the same time,” the Year 13 student said.
Zephaniah hails from Tau in Nadroga and has maternal Pepjei in Rotuma.
He aspires for a career in the field of engineering or architecture.
His favourite quote is that by former United States President, Ronald Reagan: “The greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things; he is the one that gets the people to do the greatest things.” Assistant Minister for Housing and Local Government Lenora Qereqeretabua challenged the student council body to always inspire to impact lives. “I challenge you young men and young women to make your space at the table,” Ms Qereqeretabua said.
“Leaders of SVC, future leaders of Fiji Serve with pride, lead with confidence, and inspire to impact lives.”
