Prakash wins at golf, bags $1k

School teacher Roneel Prakash shot two under par 67 to and took home the Swire Shipping Fiji PGA season opening 18 holes stroke Pro-Am championsh­ip trophy last Saturday.

“This was the second event for the PGA and I am very thankful for the competitiv­e edge and the sponsors for coming on board,” Prakash said.

Prakash bagged $1000 for his effort ahead of second placed Tomasi Tuivuna who shot 68 and settled for $800. There were 44 competitor­s on the day.

Denarau’s Amitesh Chandra and Bill Suguturaga shot 72 equal on third spot, taking $575 each. In the amateur division, Xavier College school teacher Ashish Chand won the overall gross two over par 71 while Sanjay Kishna shot 65 to finish overall 65.

Tournament controller Raymond Singh said it was a great outing of the local players where profession­als played for $4000 and the amateurs shared of prizes.

FPGA treasurer Amitesh Chandra said, “This was the second event for the FPGA and the race for the Fiji Order of Merit has begun. The next event is in April.”

He added that the FPGA hosted is annual general meeting and those elected to serve the FPGA Committee for 2023/2024 is: President - Vikrant Chandra, Vice President - Munesh Prasad, Secretary - Roneel Prakash, Treasurer - Amitesh Chandra, Committee - Arvind Lal, Tomasi Tuivuna and Rakesh Chandra, Tournament Controller - Zoheer Ahmad.

Meanwhile, Mali Pest Control/KKs Hardware sponsored 4- person ambrose which was postponed last weekend due to bad weather will now be played at the course on Saturday, March 18, entries close on March 13.
