Hotelier Raises Funds For Nephew
This is to create awareness about cancer in the country.
Hotelier and cyclist Steven Andrew will cycle from Nadi to Suva. The journey started yesterday.
This is to create awareness on cancer in the country and to raise funds in support of his nephew, Christian Paul Steven Pesamino. “The fund is for my nephew’s medical treatment costs for Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML – M5a subtype) of which he is undergoing treatment at St Luke’s Hospital, Manila, Philippines,” Mr Andrew said.
Mr Andrew is the general manager at Castaway Island Resort. “Through this cycling event, the Fiji Cancer Society will be involved in creating cancer awareness sessions at our three stop off points and will be highlighting on some of the preventable cancers whose signs and symptoms are easy identifiable (Breast, Cervical and Prostate Cancer) along with Leukemia.
“We are hoping to raise $25, 000 for my nephew. I have collected some amount and we hope to reach our target after the three days.”
Christian’s dad, Chris Pesamino said his son’s next stages of chemo treatment would be taken as oral meds with other additional medications, whilst his doctors are in contact with the International Bone Marrow Registry (IBMDR) to find a donor match.
“To reduce on his compounding medical bill which is still outstanding at St.Luke’s Hospital to date, he is able to be discharged and is being taken care of by our Filipino family in Nagcarlan province ‘thank you Tina, Joe and Alexa’ for all the necessary arrangements. Detta is also traveling with him as his nurse in training,” Mr Pesamino said. “Although he feels much better he’s still not out of the woods yet. “We continue to thank our awesome and wonderful God for the miracle he’s blessed us with. You are all the angels that our Lord has put in our path during this journey.”
Mr Steven will have two stopovers before he arrives in Suva.
