Villagers help lead to discovery of marijuana farms
Community support in curbing the illicit drug trade has led to the discovery of more marijuana farms in various parts of the country.
Chief Operations Officer Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police (A/ACP) Livai Driu said the latest discovery was made in the hinterland of Lovu Village in Gau.
Police officers from the Eastern Division task force, Criminal Investigations Department, K9, Crime Scene Investigation and Officers based at the Qarani Community Post, with the help of youths from Nawaikama and Lovu village, searched the interior of the Lovu hills where five farms were discovered.

Along the Kadavu-Koro terrain in Naceva District, more than 2000 plants believed to be marijuana were seized recently.
The plants, ranging from 10cm to close to three metres, were uprooted from the farm.
The owner is yet to be identified as investigations continue.
A/ACP Driu said in the Northern Division, aside from the arrests made for unlawful possession of illicit drugs, operations teams continue to make discoveries of marijuana farms in Savusavu and the Tunuloa areas.
He said the show of support was encouraging and reflected positively on Duavata Community Policing efforts.
“We are grateful for the show of support and the active participation of members of our community creating constructive partnerships where the results have been positive with the discovery of these farms,” he said.
