Accountants Map Out Retention Plan
Aseries of workshops will ensue this year in efforts to upskill and retain accountants around the country, it has been revealed.
The Fiji Institute of Chartered Accountants gathered at the weekend where discussions included the loss of skilled workers to the New Zealand and Australian market. The most recent count showed 100 accountants exiting the local professional scene in the past four months.
Institute president Tarlochan Singh said education was the key to address the skill gap and combating the overseas poaching of Fijian skilled workers
“There is a need to improve the way we do things,” he said.
“This includes but is not limited to servicing our members in a much more professional, embracing, effective and efficient manner. “We need to ensure we are transforming into a service delivery institute for the benefit of our members,” she said.
Rebrand
The Fiji Institute Chartered of Accountants has launched its rebranding campaign, which will include a new logo, and a change in vision, mission and strategic plan, Mr Singh said.
“We cannot underestimate or ignore the importance of connectivity, digital space, cyber security, and computerization,” he said.
“We are investing into this space.
“We are revamping our websites which would provide more information to our members.
“Although bill payments are already within our banking platforms, we are exploring online payments via international credit or debit cards.”
An awareness drive at high schools and universities are part of the institutes’ plans this year.
“We will be rebranding and launching the organisation’s new logo as well as membership awareness at universities and high schools,” he said.
Scholarships for aspirants of the accounting profession are included in the institute’s decision with the Tertiary Education Loan Scheme
and Higher Education Commission, Mr Singh said.
