Ratu Kadavulevu School (RKS) is on track to win back the Coca-Cola Games boy’s title, currently held by Suva Grammar School (SGS).

RKS fought off a strong challenge from Queen Victoria School (QVS) to win the boy’s division of the Tailevu Zone at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva yesterday.

RKS collected 25 gold, 14 silver, 20 bronze medals while QVS had 19 gold, 31 silver and 15 bronze. Tailevu North College finished third with 5 gold, 3 silver and 10 bronze medals.

Tailevu North College claimed the girl’s title with 25 gold, 8 silver and 13 bronze, followed by Dawasamu Secondary School with 8 gold, 10 silver and 14 bronze, while St Vincent College managed 7 gold, 9 silver and 7 bronze.

Levuka Public claims Lomaiviti Zone

Meanwhile, Levuka Public School (LPS) toppled defending Lomaiviti Zone champions, St John’s College (SJC), after hauling in 118 medals at the SJC ground, in Cawaci, Levuka, yesterday.

Defending champions SJC settled for second in the girls’ division while the boys finished third behind winners Delana Methodist High School and second place getter Levuka Public.

The two-day event featured three secondary schools with Gau Secondary School not showing up. William Fox of SJC won the senior boys’ blue ribbon at 11.50 seconds; his schoolmate Milio won silver at 11.69sec and bronze went to Paula Kakae of LPS, who clocked 11.90sec.

Jade Vulo of LPS won the senior girls’ 100m at 13.84sec; her schoolmate May Qarau won silver on 14.06sec and Emily Bower of DMHS won bronze on 14.70sec.

Although rivalry was strong, zone coordinator Ledua Pareti said better times and distances could have been achieved if the surface was good.

“You can’t compare grass tracks to the all-weather tracks in Suva, but competition was better than last year,” Pareti said.

The Lomaiviti officials will meet today to finalise the names of athletes who will represent them at the Coke Games in Suva on April 27-29.
