Tertiary hospital
Dewan Chand, Suva
On Friday, April 14, 2023, my good friend Pushp Raj (former Lautoka town clerk) invited me to a briefing function at the Tanoa Plaza vis-avis on the above-mentioned subject.
Some 50 distinguished citizens attended.
The key presenters were Dr Michael Sushil Chandra (DirectorPrime Health- South Pacific) from Iowa in the United States of America and Dr Karam Singh from Sydney, Australia. Both these distinguished doctors are former citizens of Fiji.
During the presentation they discussed the advantages of having a world-class tertiary healthcare hospital in Fiji.
The state-of-the-art facilities will provide sophisticated treatments here, at a low cost.
This hospital will be able to cater for Fiji and the entire Pacific Island nations.
The proposed project will benefit our low-income earners here and in the Pacific region.
Land for the project has already been earmarked. As soon as the approval and other formalities are processed the project will kick start without any further delay.
It is a huge foreign investment and Fiji has nothing to lose.
The previous attempts to establish this hospital ran into some unforeseen difficulties (basically lack of political will).
However, the futuristic looking coalition Government should pave the way for the start of this urgent and modern tertiary hospital project. I am sure Fijians will be delighted with it.
I urge the Government to grant the necessary approvals so that the project can proceed with ease.
My best wishes to the initiators and the success of this project.
