The Coalition Government has promised to seriously look into the water sector with a strong view to improving water and wastewater management and services to Fijians.

The work has begun. While immediate actions are being taken to address service delivery issues, the ideation workshop held in March identified key areas of focus for the Water Sector 2050 Plan.

The Minister for Public Works, Transport and Meteorological Services, Ro Filipe Tuisawau has revealed the ’10 Big Ideas’ for Fiji’s Water Sector Strategy 2050.

“The water and sanitation infrastructure requires long-term thinking,” Ro Filipe said.

“As a nation, for the first time, the Water Sector 2050 Strategy will provide us with a national vision of water and ensure that we are not in the same position come 2050.” Considering Fiji’s pesent and future challenges, diverse views are required to create a common vision and an action plan for water in 2050.

Therefore, during World Water Day on March 22, an ideation workshop was held to kick-start this Water

Sector Strategy development process.

The outcome of the workshop was a number of key ideas that were prioritised and summarised into a “Discussion Paper” to continue dialogue with the wider community and critical stakeholders.

The backbone of the Water Sector Strategy 2050 includes the top-level priorities driven by the sector’s purpose and the challenges Fiji faces. Ro Filipe looks forward to discussions during the Thematic Area 10 on Water Resource Management and water and sewage sectors during the 2023 National Economic Summit .
