Multiplex To Replace Cathay Hotel
Another four-star hotel is going up in the Western Division, as demolition of the historical Cathay Hotel will be converted into a state-of-the-art mixed use retail and hospitality precinct, with an 80-room four star hotel.
Challenge Group of Companies managing director, Suresh Patel, said the development was in response to increasing demand for quality hotel accommodation and retail spaces in Lautoka.
The company acquired the property in 2019.
A First For The West
Significant tourism development has eluded the country’s second largest city for decades.
The new development will be a first for the West, giving consumers a world-class shopping experience, with accommodation to go with it. The Challenge City Lautoka complex was designed by award winning architects, TropicX Design Studio, who have benchmarked the development against successful regional retail projects.
With one of Fiji’s largest underground carpark, Challenge City Lautoka will have parking spots for 200 cars.
Other highlights of the multiplex include:
An 80-room hotel with a view of the city and seafront replaces Cathay Hotel, where a state-of-the-art 300-person capacity function centre will overlook Churchill Park.
Brand-label stores. Specialist bakery and liquor outlet. Large food court and restaurant precinct. Large area of world class experience for its customers. Sustainable Measures
retail
This development will have approximately 4000 sq.m of photovoltaic cells that will assist in providing power to the development. Combined with efficient building services that will be managed by a smart central building management
system, it will make Challenge City Lautoka one of the most sustainable mixed use retail developments in Fiji.
Discussions with major Fijian retailers continue over leasing prospects.
“A further expression of interest will be advertised in the local papers for other opportunities with local retailers and restaurateurs,” Mr Patel said.
The new 80-room hotel with views to the surrounding city and seafront, will have an impressive conference and events centre.
A state-of-the-art 300-person capacity function centre will overlook Churchill Park.
The project should be completed by mid 2025.
