Ambassador Zhou encourages learning Chinese language
The Chinese Ambassador to Fiji, Zhou Jian, encouraged people to actively learn the Chinese language and culture and aspire to build a bridge of friendship for cultural exchanges.
Ambassador Zhou was speaking during the international chinese language day celebration at Lautoka Zhong Hua School yesterday.
He added that learning Chinese also reinforced pragmatic cooperation between China and Fiji. Chinese Mandarin is currently one of the six official languages of the United Nations and is the most widely-used language in the world today.
More than 25 million people outside of China are studying Chinese, and the cumulative number of users is close to 200 million. The role of Chinese in international communication is increasingly prominent, playing an essential part in advancing human civilization.
“One of the many partnership results between the People’s Republic of China and the Fijian Government included the Ministry of Education through the Lautoka Zhong Hua School in the public education system and the incorporation of the Chinese language in the curriculum,” Mr Zhou said.
Meanwhile, school students participated in various activities and received prizes on the day with the theme language, facilitating across civilizations’.
Language teachers at Yat Sen School and Lautoka Zhong Hua School have jointly trained many Chinese language talents in Fiji, contributing significantly to the bilateral friendship between China and Fiji.
