Northern Futsal head lauds Fiji FA for new turf
The installation of the new all-weather turf is underway at the Fiji Football Association (FFA) Labasa academy and has been well received by Labasa futsal coach Ronil Ram.
Ram who is also the Northern division futsal coordinator welcomed the development for promotion of safety of players.
He said the previous court had a concrete surface and the possibility of injuries was high.
The sport’s frantic gentleman said the new artificial rubber turf would cushion injuries and high risk damages to players.
Ram said the turf promoted a better playing condition and players performing under scorching heat would now reduce injuries count with an improved and stable surface. “Exhaustion level and heat contributed negatively to player injuries and now this surface will contain this risk,” he reiterated.
In the pathway development of futsal players in the North, Ram believes the new facility would develop more high quality players.
“Thanks to Fiji FA, we are now getting the chance to play on a professional turf which in the long term will be a pathway for professional players as well”.
An optimistic Ram said players in the North would now have the skills and technicality to improve and compete for district and national team duties.
“On behalf of Labasa futsal for FFA for taking this positive initiative to improve the futsal court in the North,” he said. “With an improved futsal court, more players could try this sport and unearth their talents hopefully in this code.” For women futsal players, Ram encouraged and shed light that future tournaments would accommodate women participation.
“This is a positive move and ideal moment for futsal players taking part in this weekend’s Digicel Northern Futsal league.”
The League has six district teams competing: Nadogo, Savusavu, Dreketi, Bua, Labasa and Dreketi, they will play on the new turf in Round 4 this Sunday.
The turf is expected to train players and close the gap on Labasa, which has been a constant dominant team.
