PVS PATHWAY WORKSHOP TO IMPROVE VETERINARY SERVICES
The Assistant Minister for Agriculture and Waterways, Hon. Tomasi Tunabuna officiated at the Performance of Veterinary Services (PVS) Pathway Orientation Training Workshop for Pacific Island countries in Nadi recently.
During his official address, Hon. Tunabuna encouraged participants to improve levels of national understanding, ownership and engagement in the Performance of Veterinary Services (PVS) Pathway in the Pacific region.
Participants included representatives from Pacific Island countries, Regional organisations and stakeholders and trainers from the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH).
He reassured that Fiji which is also a WOAH member country supports in recognizing the importance of the Performance of Veterinary Services pathway programme of WOAH.
The programme is designed for the sustainable improvement, strengthening and upgrading of national veterinary services of WOAH members in compliance with WOAH International standards.
“The orientation stage of the PVS Pathway will provide with the necessary methods and knowledge of improved preparation and conduct of PVS Pathway activities, higher quality reports and more effective use of the reports to fund and drive change to strengthen veterinary services,” he said.
“It is my sincere hope that your
participation in the workshop will improve respective levels of national understanding, ownership and engagement in the PVS Pathway.”
The four stages of the PVS Pathway correspond to specific capacity-building activities and methods to evaluate, plan, cost and support the strengthening of national veterinary services.
The components covered the entire veterinary domain including workforce evaluation and development, disease
prevention and control capabilities, diagnosis and laboratory networks, economic and legal assessments, One Health integration and Public-Private Partnerships.
The Hon. Assistant Minister also reiterated the opportunity of networking to promote participation, support and collaboration within the veterinary services.
