Every year, Razia Mohammed and her family celebrate Eid by sharing their blessings with the vulnerable ones in the community.

Ms Mohammed, who is the founder of a non-charitable organisation, Being Helping Hands Fiji (BHHF), will celebrate Eid by donating traditional clothing and distribute $100 shopping vouchers per family.

“We will also visit some of the Muslim families and help them in celebrating Eid with good food and sweets,” she said.

She said after the Eid namaz, they would be going out and visiting few of their adoptive families and giving them zakaat (money).

“Every week of Ramadan, we have been assisting 100’s of families with $100 shopping vouchers and during the last week of roza (fasting), we have started giving them vouchers for Eid shopping,” she said.

She also said BHHF had already started reaching out to the vulnerable families with food, vouchers and preparing them for Eid. “It is very important to reach out to the vulnerable during this festival and help them celebrate Eid and share the blessings. True significance of Eid is sharing the happiness with one another,” Ms Mohammed said.

“Let’s all come together to perform acts of kindness with gratitude.”

She said helping the needy with their rent, groceries and ration bags was what BHHF did every Eid.

“Everyone deserves to celebrate Eid. This Eid, lets come together as a society and encourage each other to celebrate Eid not for us, but for the more deserving groups of our society. Let’s work together to spread happiness and joy,” she said. Ms Mohammed said Muslims are constantly encouraged to perform charitable behavior, and a strong Muslim norm endorses giving to the needy.

“The Prophet Muhammad (Peace be Upon Him) said: “Even a smile is charity.” Giving charity is the proof of faith, as those who are close to God are always seeking his love through giving.”
