Vinay Vishal Prasad, who was allegedly murdered while working as a watchman, was described as a shy, quiet and kind person.

The 38-year-old was said to be close to his mother Prem Lata and they would always have breakfast together.

Police chief investigations, intelligence and prosecutions ACP Sakeo Raikaci confirmed that the victim was allegedly murdered early on Friday morning.

“Police are investigating an alleged murder where a 38-year-old security officer died at Bakshi Street at Samabula early Friday morning. He was injured and sought assistance from the above place,” ACP Raikaci said.

He said two males provided assistance, but unfortunately the Mr Prasad passed away while awaiting transportation to hospital. Investigation continues.

Mr Prasad’s younger brother Vikash Vishal Prasad said it was hard to pass on the news of his brother’s death to their mother.

“My brother was really attached to my mother. My mother is sickly, so every morning when my brother returns from work, he would help my mother clean the house and they would have breakfast together,” Mr Prasad said.

“He was a neat person and was always shy.

“I didn’t know how to tell my mother because she has a heart problem and was attached to my brother. My neighbours had to come home as a group and tell my mother.

“Every night my mother would call my brother and talk to him and on that particular day she forgot to call him,” he said.

“Right now, we don’t know what really happened because no one has told us what happened that led to my brother’s death.

“We are in shock because it was not something anyone expects.”
