Labasa Friends Mark EID in Style
Ramadan and Eid are very significant in our religious calendar and we prepare with great devotion and sacrifice.
Eid is centred on celebrating the end of a month of fasting and spending time with family, friends and people within the community.
In an effort to put this into practice, a group of friends, Shuaib Khan, 16, Ansaar Aziz, 17, Nawazish Din, 16, Mohammed Azaar, 20, and Azhar Hussain, 17, dressed in the same colour outfit and visited 75 houses in a day at
Labasa.
They are from Valebasoga, Labasa and saved a month’s worth of pocket money given to them by their parents to buy their outfits. “Ramadan and Eid are very significant in our religious calendar and we prepare with great devotion and sacrifice,” Mr Azaar said.
“It is not easy to fast for 30 days, trying to focus on school work, but we do it for the love of Allah,” Shuaib, a Year 11 student of Valebasoga Secondary School said.”
His classmate, Nawazish, said apart from being joyful marking the successful end of Ramadan, he felt it was equally important to share joy with other fellow Muslims.
Azhaar working at Zahid Engine Repairs as a technician, said despite rainy weather conditions, they moved around from house to house on foot to celebrate Eid last Saturday.
“Visiting families, making your presence known is more meaningful than making a phone call or posting wishes,” Azhar said. “We have a limited time on this earth, so let us value relationships not just on Eid, but every day and this is why we chose to bond together as friends in unique wear today.”
