Women’s group to receive Australian trainer

-

A provincial women’s group in Savusavu is excited to receive an Indigenous Australian personnel next month to conduct training for their members.

Soqosoqo Vakamarama iTaukei Cakaudrove (SVTC) will host the trainer for three weeks after an official visit to the Australian Embassy in Suva.

This was confirmed by group president Adi Salaseini Fong, who said the training was part of the Australian Volunteers Impact Fund (AVIF).

Ms Fong said the training would focus on producing jewellery and ornaments from available resources.

“She will be bringing indigenous materials from Australia to showcase to our members and the unique methods of jewellery making,” Ms Fong said.

She said the training would be the first of the SVTC.

It would boost their members through jewellery production.

The club, meanwhile, last Wednesday welcomed the Australian charge d’ affairs, Stuart Watt at the SVTC office in Savusavu Town.

Ms Fong said the visit enabled Mr Watt to become familiar with the projects undertaken by the group in the province with activities supported by the AVIF programme. Leadership training making impact with increased interests

The completion of the organisational strengthening leadership training in respective villages around Cakaudrove, has seen a rise in women participation in leadership roles.

SVTC concluded its training in the last two villages last week to complete 134 villages.

Ms Fong said they were in the process of preparing their report and acquittal for the programme.

The training also motivated them to pay $300 per year/ per village levy for the operation of SVTC.
