Golfers hail hardware company’s support
Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka took time out of his busy schedule to play in the two-day R.C. Manubhai Fiji Golf Open at Vatuwaqa in Suva. Speaking to SUNsport, tournament official Mohamod Buksh said 112 golfers turned up in both the amateur and professional categories.
“They are playing for the lucrative prize money,” he said.
“We would like to acknowledge our Prime Minister (Sitiveni) Rabuka who also took part.” Buksh also thanked R.C. Manubhai for the sponsorship.
“It is a bigger and better sponsorship in our club and the weather was not that bad.”
R.C. Manubhai Group marketing manager Atish Kumar said they contributed about $30,000 to the tournament.
“The plan is to make sure that golf in the country is developed as a major sport.
“It’s a minority sport but at the same time we want to get more people into golf,” Kumar said.
Pacific Games
Speaking to SUNsport, men’s Overall Gross winner Isei ‘Waqa’ Verevakabau thanked God for his talent and the sponsors for supporting the tournament.
