Habitual drunks

-

Ronnie Chang, Nadi

Habitual drunkards at Martintar, Nadi, get a kick out of taunting dogs that are properly secured in their compounds, early most mornings.

Yesterday morning, I was rudely awakened several times, after 1am; 3am and 5am. I was forced to get up to switch our bright security lights on several occasions.

Sleep was badly disturbed throughout the early morning. I finally got up with a bad headache and feeling like a real zombie; very restless.

Life at 71 years just gets harder for me; pushing hard each day to seek early closure of our nightclubs at 1am. Controlling stress levels is no mean feat now.

Drunkards can be the most inconsiderate species of human beings.

I am pleading again with all learned authorities, please close our Martintar nightclubs and kava saloons at 1am.

In the dead of night, sound travels. We are about 300 metres away from three nightclubs, and the boom, boom, boom from nightclub drums and bass guitars are getting more unbearable, annoying and downright frustrating.

To all our caring authorities, are our nightclubs effectively soundproofed?

I politely request the department of Occupational Health and Safety to carry out their civic duties, most professionally, please. Investigate, for the public good.

If they are not properly sound-proofed, they ought not to be granted the license to operate. Please, do not look the other way.

The quality of our lives is worsening; we deserve better.

Peace and quiet is a very distant memory early each morning.

Will the honourable minister(s) concerned, please, be our strongest advocates.

Your immediate support is requested, most politely.

The caring members of the Opposition can and should assist us in our plight as well. Your voices are needed too.

Life cannot carry on this way.
