Coming from a mixed background of Fijian, European and Tuvaluan heritage, my culture has a huge influence in my work and designs. The women in my family also loved to dress up, so they have always inspired me.”

What are some challenges?

Finding the right fabric.

In Fiji we don’t have a wide range of fabric to choose from its either rayon or cotton.

That would be the main challenge. The other is in finding trustworthy seamstresses.

What is most rewarding about your job?

Receiving feedback from my customers, hearing them talk about how my designs make them feel beautiful, I’m always overwhelmed. That encourages me continue designing and working hard.

What is your philosophy about business as a whole and your vision for your businesses?

My business philosophy (Integrity and Creativity) my vision for my business is to make men and women stand out and feel unique whenever they wear a LABORIEL design.

Have you been inspired by anyone?

My grandparents are my inspiration; both my maternal and paternal grandparents were successful business people.

Growing up with them, I learned a lot about running a business. It has helped me tremendously in my fashion business.

What impact has the COVID-19 pandemic had on your professional and personal life?

Describe a typical day in your life (normal daily schedule)?

“I wake up around 8am and have breakfast, I usually have cereal with a cup of Milo. Sometimes I skip breakfast and have brunch at around 1pm, after breakfast I check my emails and start planning out my clients’ orders for the day. If I have time, I go fabric sourcing in town and visit my printers.”

What do you like to do in your spare time?

“Listen to music, read books (business), cook and bake all sorts of recipes.”

When at home, what do you like to eat?

“Ramen Noodles because it’s yummy and easy to cook.”

What is your favourite dish to cook for guests?

“Spaghetti bolognese.”

What is your motto in life?
