Flying out with the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua side for Perth yesterday prop Jone Tiko says he is grateful and blessed to be with the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific slayers.

Tiko a teacher’s aide at Calamvale Community College in Brisbane, Australia has a twin brother, Navi. Tiko who was playing for the Brisbane-based Wests Bulldogs was also part of the Fijian Drua squad last season; this year he re-joined the team to provide cover in the front row.

He has already been capped by the Drua in 2022 and featured in both trial matches this year against the Melbourne Rebels and Western Force.

The 28-year-old hails from Navakawau village in Taveuni.

“The journey, resilience is such a reward for all the hard work you get on the field,” Tiko said.

“Wasn’t expecting this to be a plan as I came as an injury cover but got it extended for the season, I am grateful. Blessed and will just take the opportunity and make the most of the opportunity.”

Tiko said it’s been good to be back at home, especially having the Fiji Rugby’s franchise set up.

“It’s been amazing. I have played five games this season,” he said. “So rewarding, Get some results, some close games but have all the confidence. That all our preparation throughout the pre-season has been paying off.

“This is an experience to be part of this team of fellow Fijians and to be part of the Super Rugby competition is huge.”

Yesterday an anxious Tiko left with the team to play against Western Force at the HBF Park, Perth on Friday.

“It was a short week but it was no issue for the boys, everyone has been preparing well, we’re just trying to keep the same preparation we have been doing from last week,” he said.

On his record Tiko has featured for Amidale Blues - New England

Rugby (NSW), East Tigers – Hospital Cup Challenge (Queensland Premier Rugby) and West Bulldogs for the Hospital Cup Challenge (QPR).

The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua will take on Western Force at 9:35pm on Friday at the HBF Park, Perth, Australia.
