Victoria Wines’ popular wine tasting is back after three years. Its first event was on Wednesday night and it was a sucess, managing director, Liam Hindle, said.

His journey in educating customers about various wines has been a 15-year labour of love.

He believes more people need to be educated about wines.

“It is difficult to buy a bottle of wine you know nothing about,” he said.

Mr Hindle is on a quest to find people who can continue his legacy when it comes to wine knowledge.

He established the company 20 years ago at Victoria Parade, Suva where his daughter, Kate Vusoniwailala, runs the business as chief executive officer and director.

Victoria Wines rolled out 15 different wines on Wednesday night with its vintage ranging from 2016 to 2022. It included wines such as Greywacke Sauvignon Blanc, Yangarra Old Wine Vine Grenache, Pascal Jolivet Sancerre Blanc among many others.

While prices ranged from $32 to $78, a special discount was offered during the wine tasting night.

“The platform gives people the opportunity to taste the different wines that we have and get their money’s worth,” said Mr Hindle.

Drinking the wrong wine can cause diabetes, Mr Hindle said.

Renowned Pacific poet, Konai Helu Thaman, supported the idea of monthly wine-tasting nights.

“There is nothing like this in Fiji where people can come and learn about wine,” she said. “We are from the Pacific, we did not grow up with wine.

“It is important to learn about the different wines, where they come from, to help us when we select a purchase. “One of the new features of the event is the food.”
