FijiFirst leader Voreqe Bainimarama expressed his thanks to supporters who travelled from afar to be part of the party’s family meet at the Girmit Centre in Lautoka last Saturday.

This event attracted more

200 supporters.

Those present were FijiFirst Members of Parlioament Premila Kumar, Jone Usamate, Faiyaz Koya, Rinesh Chand, Parveen Bala Kumar and Hem Chand, Viam Pilla and Ridhi Damodar.

The Leader of the Opposition Inia Seruiratu was also present. than

This is the first FijiFirst party get-together in the West since the 2022 general election.

An earlier meeting was cancelled because of bad weather.

He said FijiFirst’s ability to remain resilient was due to the supporters.

“We will continue, we are looking forward to the next elections, our group in Parliament will get us through that, but we look forward to getting into the next election in 2026,” he said.

He said the Coalition Government was duplicating previous plans that were initially carried out by the FijiFirst when it was in power.

“I think today they are celebrating Girmitiya all over the country, but we know that we’ve been celebrating Girmitiya over the past eight years we’ve been in power, we don’t have to make a big deal out of it,” he said.

He said FijiFirst would possibly hold similar family meet events in Suva and Vanua Levu.

‘Don’t look at short-term gains’

At the event, FijiFirst general secretary Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum urged supporters not to fall victim to short-term gains proposed by other political parties.

“The fact is that people looked at short-term gains they did not look at long-term, they did not think about our country, they did not think about the young children that are here today with us and that’s precisely what the leadership of FijiFirst does at the moment in parliament for you,” Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said.

“You need to tell them about their mistakes, those people who did not vote for FijFirst, who fell into the trap of the misinformation by the other political parties are now regretting it, you need to tell them the mistake they made.”

He said if the next National Budget would not get passed, then another election would need to be held, and this was when FijiFirst supporters must be ready.
