PS Commits in Recycling Project
Selina Kuruleca wants to play a more active role in the promotion of recycling in school. The Ministry of Education Permanent Secretary was chief guest at the Recycling on the Go (ROG) Ambassadors Leadership Forum at Tanoa International Hotel in Nadi. At the event, 30 ROG Ambassadors from Jai Narayan College, Jasper Williams High School, and Nadi Sangam Primary School presented their thoughts on implementing the recycling programmes into the school system.
Organised by Pacific Recycling Foundation in partnership with Swire Shipping and Tanoa Hotel Group, the event brought together a diverse array of stakeholders dedicated to advancing recycling and sustainability initiatives across Fiji.
The PS was impressed by the presentation from students and the mission of PRF in schools.
“This mission into promoting recycling with our school is awesome and I want to play an active role in it,” she said.
“I am committed to being here. We have to make this work if we want to make all schools in Fiji a recycling school, let’s do it.”
“I want to think of our school as creators for great things. I want to
think of our school as making delivery decisions of such great initiatives. We need to partner with them. Our children, you are our champion.”
PRF rep Amitesh Deo expressed gratitude for the initiative shown by the 30 students and their invaluable contribution to the cause.
“Their dedication and passion exemplify
the spirit of activism, reminding us that meaningful change begins at the grassroots level,” he said.
Adding to the enthusiasm of the forum, Swire Shipping Fijian Drua players, Caleb Muntz, Sailosi Vukalokalo, and Kitione Salawa, joined as New Recycling Advocates and showcased their dedication to the
cause by making presentations with the students.
Mr Deo said their involvement underscores the power of collaboration between sports icons and recycling and environmental advocates in creating recycling awareness. The forum served as a pivotal platform for the Pacific Recycling Foundation to advance its ROG strategy in collaboration with Swire Shipping and the Ministry of Education. With the programme implemented in three schools and plans for upscaling in more schools soon, this forum marked a significant milestone in the journey towards a greener and more sustainable Fiji.
