Damodar City Labasa Hotel Set to Open Mid-Year
Damodar City Labasa Hotel, the newest addition to Fiji’s flourishing hospitality sector, is nearing completion.
Situated in Vanua Levu, Labasa, this hotel development is expected to commence operation by midyear, contributing 40 more guest rooms to the island nation’s inventory.
Damodar Group of Companies chief executive officer, Div Damodar expressed excitement for this initial step into hotel development, hinting at larger projects in the pipeline.
“Being our first hotel initiative, this serves as an excellent beginning, leading up to potentially greater developments in Fiji,” he said.
He said they had plans of getting into bigger developments like this in future as well.
Meanwhile, Tourism Fiji chief executive officer, Brent Hill said this was a fantastic project and will lift what was available in Vanua Levu, particularly Labasa.
“Damodar does things well, and this is a game changing project for Labasa. Tourism takes all forms – from local domestic tourism to events and of course international tourists,” he said.
“This hotel will be a great fit for all of those and offer a real quality in Labasa which is great.”
Mr Hill said Tourism Fiji worked closely with Mr Damodar and his team and have discussed his plans and how they could help promote. “There’s also been discussions about aligning with a global brand name, and we’re there to help with that aspect also. But kudos to Div and the team – they are visionary local owners going fantastic work across Fiji.”
He also said the great thing about this project was that it had seen supporting services such as rubbish collection now spring up, which was great for sustainability.
“The impact of this project is immense. As we have seen right across Fiji, when a high quality facility is built, people – locals and tourists – flock to it.
“That then demands that other businesses need to up their game to compete, and that’s good for Fiji.”
Mr Hill said this project was the biggest in the Damodar group and arguably one of the biggest in Labasa for some time, so it will bring direct employment and opportunity, but also supporting business will spring up and have an opportunity to capitalise on what this project can bring.
“It will also act as a hub as well, drawing in many people from all the surrounding villages etc. to come to Labasa.”
