The Dreketi Football Association is focusing on putting together a team mixed with experienced and upcoming players.

The players are working on their combination as they countdown to the opening round of the Digicel Senior League.

Dreketi FA president, Ravinesh Deo, said their aim is to win this year’s Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA) Vanua Levu Zone competition.

The senior men’s team had a tough season last year, Deo said, where they finished in the bottom half of the six teams playing in the Northern Zone.

Deo said they have developed their youth players who have a year of experience under their belt.

“These young players have combined

well with the experienced players in the team.”

He confirmed that eight players have applied for their transfer to Dreketi from other districts. Also some players are returning to the side after helping them promote to the Premier Division in 2015.

“The Transfer Window closed on January 31 and we now await the approvals of these players in the next two weeks,” he said.

Deo said they have yet to start their training sessions.

“Training will commence by the mid of this month. Despite being one of the smallest district teams in the country, but our local youth development programme is bearing fruits.

“Majority of our youth players (10) are locally developed, so it is a boost to our development pathway.”

Deo called on the business sector to sponsor the team.

“We are still trying to secure sponsorships for the team to assist us in the running of this team,” he added.
