Family markets is expected to become a key area for tourism targets in Japan. Fiji Tourism Board director for Asia,Vincent Zeng, said Fiji was the perfect family-friendly destination and could be “enjoyed safely.’’

“We haven’t done much familyoriented promotion in Japan so far, but I want to do more,’’ he said.

In-hotel kids clubs, and babysitting services, are also factors planned for the promotion, he said.

“Fiji is said to have a national character that emphasises family

and cares for children, and there are many services for children, so parents can relax by leaving their children at a babysitter or at a kids’ club for the day,” Mr Vincent said.

“Also, since Fiji’s official language is English, it will be useful for children to learn the language.”

Japan’s Travel Watch said the adult-only resorts were relatively unknown in Japan.

Tourism Fiji is expected to promote activities for couples, such as weddings, and picnics for two on a deserted island.

Heavily-themed trips such as golf, rugby, volunteering, and social development goals, are expe ted to be included in the promotion to further Fiji’s growth.

“Fiji won the gold medal in the men’s rugby sevens at the Tokyo Olympics, making Fiji a familiar country to rugby fans,” Travel Watch said.

“Fiji has been rolling out a new brand, For a Happier Fiji, since 2023, and is promoting it based on the pillars of abundant nature, adventure, interaction with the community, refreshment, and gourmet food.

Happiness Fiji Identity

Sae Miyamoto, spokesperson for the Fiji Tourism Board, said, happiness was part of Fiji’s identity.

“We want people visiting the island to spend time in Fiji that brings them genuine happiness.

Mr Vincent promoted village tours for villages close to resorts, as an example of interaction with the community.

“You can get involved in their daily life while doing so,” he said.

It is an idea of passing on Fiji’s unique culture, which has been around for over 4000 years, through village tours and other activities.
