Sigatoka Amphitheatre nears completion
The amphitheatre being built near the Sigatoka River is nearing completion. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism, Civil Aviation, and Education Viliame Gavoka said Government had been embarking on the journey of transforming Sigatoka and the greater Nadroga-Navosa area into vibrant hubs of sustainable development.
The Ministry of Local Government has been working on plans to support this initiative.
“The amphitheatre stands as a testament to our dedication to nurturing cultural vibrancy and community engagement,” he said.
The amphitheatre is set against the majestic Sigatoka River; this venue shall serve as a beacon of artistic expression where tradition converges and narratives unfold, enriching the tapestry of our collective heritage.
Roading in Kavanagasau
Mr Gavoka said there was a great need for road infrastructure in the Kavanagasau area, with the Fiji Roads Authority scheduled to start work soon.
“We need supporting infrastructure and services. The Fiji Roads Authority has plans to carry out road rehabilitation and maintenance on the Kavanagasau Road, which is expected to start soon.”
Master plan
Mr Gavoka said Government’s shared vision extended beyond immediate solutions and aligned with the principles of sustainable progress.
“We are ensuring that our efforts today pave the way for a prosperous and resilient tomorrow. The Strategic Master Plan for Viti Levu stands as a beacon of our collective ambition,” he said.
“This master plan transcends mere infrastructure development and takes a holistic approach to growth and tourism excellence.”
He said the master plan was a testament to the Government’s commitment to positioning Fiji as the crown jewel of Oceania and a haven where individuals from all walks of life converge to live, work, learn, play, and move around. “It underscores our collective resolve to leverage tourism as a catalyst for economic empowerment and cultural enrichment.”
