Ubayd Haider is willing to take on Ratu Rakuro Daunivavana in his next fight after defeating Mohammed Ali on a unanimous points decision in the main supporting bout of the Bluewater Boxing Promotions on Saturday night at the Vodafone Arena.

“I would like to humbly challenge him (Daunivavana) as there’s not many people left here in Fiji in my weight division,” Haider said. “I need to get that 10 win streak before I fly off to the United States; I’ll fight on October 12.”

Haider hopes to inspire other local boxers to pursue fights overseas. “I would like to dedicate this fight to my two sons and parents as I haven’t seen them for nine weeks,” he said.

“My manager tried his outmost best to look for a trainer for me in order to help me get better and grow in the sport of boxing.” Haider said he will need to look for opponents in his own weight division.

“The ones that are here don’t want to fight me; honestly Mikaele Ravalaca has nothing to offer me as he needs the fight not me,” he said.

“At the end of the day, until the promoters meet my demands only then the fight will go ahead.” Haider’s sponsor include Mrecht Accessories, Coastline Transport, Food King and National Hire. “I would also thank the Muslim League, Pacific Business Solutions & Consultancy and Supercool Vanuatu as they helped me grow in the sport of boxing,” he said.

“I give my outmost respect for Mohammed Ali for giving the good fight.”

Haider said the hype surrounding their fight was a platform to grow the sport of boxing in the country. “Sport of boxing brings us brothers together like me, Ali, Ravalaca and Hill to help the sport grow bigger and better in Fiji.”
