Netball Australia Hosts Coaching Workshop
Netball Australia (NA), through the support of the PacificAus Sports programme, is currently hosting a three-day coaching workshop from today to Thursday (March 5-7) involving Netball Fiji’s top national coaches, majority of who are National Academy programme coaches.
The coaching workshop which is held at the Vodafone Arena conference room is aimed at connecting Netball Fiji’s coaches and identifying how cultural identity informs self, and coaching practices, and to drive the local athletes’ performance and high performance behaviours.
The workshop has been designed by NA’s First Nations Engagement Lead – Ali Tucker-Munro and Head of Performance Wellbeing – Matt Malcahy and will be supported by 4 highly credentialed Australian netball coaches. The coaches from State & National Pathway level bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the workshop. A central theme of the workshop revolves around the concept of “Our Way – Our Style” within the local context. This involves a deep dive into understanding how culture shapes and guides game style and coaching practices, with a focus on identifying strategies to leverage these elements. Local coaches will learn more on managing cultural and community obligations and expectations with coaching obligations and requirements.
NAs PacificAus Sports Programme Manager, Rowan Fajerman said that this is the first time NA has delivered a bespoke workshop of this nature in the region and will continue to strengthening the relationship between NA and Netball Fiji as well as between the coaches.
“The workshop brings together Fijian and Australian coaches to connect, learn and grow together. Coaches will have integrated, peer-to-peer sessions about high performance coaching practices and strategies”.
The workshop is part of the Australian Governments and NA’s commitment to supporting development and opportunities for athletes and coaches in the region, highlighting a strong history and connection between Australia & the Pacific.
