Tora Maps Plan To Root Out Drug Peddlers
Head boy Osea Tora has already mapped out his plans to tackle suspected drug peddling at Tilak High School.
Osea and co-head Rashpreet Kaur were among the 65 prefects inducted on Friday to oversee the Lautoka school’s 1200 students. The leadership role is not new to the Nacamaki, Koro, Lomaiviti native who was deputy head boy last year, school prefect in Year 11, form captain in Year Nine and a prefect throughout primary school.
“I hope to make a change in disciplinary issues, drug abuse decrease and reduce the drug peddlers that we suspect here in Tilak High School, we will try to find out who is involved,” Osea said.
“I dedicate my achievement to my parents for their hard work, and investing in my education.”
Head girl Rashpreet Kaur said her humble upbringing at Naikabula, Lovu motivated her to always strive for academic excellence. “My parents come from a poor background. They gave it their all to raise me and my brothers,” she said.
Maintaining discipline is her main goal . “Most schools face this problem of students not being disciplined, so we’ll try to get to the root of it,” she said.
Chief guest and Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration Pio Tikoduadua said leadership was about fostering an environment where rules are respected not out of fear, but to create a harmonious and conducive learning atmosphere.
“To be fair is to transcend personal biases, to listen with an open heart and to judge with an impartial mind,” he said.
“It is about recognising the unique voices, perspectives and circumstances within our student body and ensuring that every decision reflects the balance of these diverse elements.”
Standing unwaveringly by one’s principles and values is a vital characteristic. “Leadership is an intricate tapestry woven from various threads of qualities, actions, and decisions. It is not a mantle to be worn lightly, but a commitment to be carried with integrity, purpose and empathy,” he said. The deputy head girls are Mele Grace Caucau and Adi Laisa Veidreyaki while the deputy head boys are Roshiv Singh and Shivesh Pranav Prasad.
