As there is always a reason behind every season of celebration, so is Easter says Naleba New Life Church pastor Pradeep Kumar. Mr Kumar, who has been pastoring for 15 years in Labasa said Easter was mostly celebrated by the Christians.

While it is the longest weekend of the year in Fiji, many people celebrate Easter in different ways.

Why we celebrate Easter

He said after the deception and fall of mankind, God planned to restore his relationship by sending prophets and faithful servants every year to this earth. However, sin and wickedness increased so much that God had to send his only son, Jesus to show the way.

“History proves that Jesus came as the dates were marked either Birth of Christ (BC) or After the Death of Christ (AD),” Mr Kumar said.

“Jesus came to this earth but his own failed to recognise and rejected him since he did not come the way they expected.”

While on earth, Jesus preached the way of living that pleased God, made 12 disciples, healed the sick, cast out demons, fed thousands of people and did many miracles.

He said most people hated him because where there were spiritual laws.

“He brought grace, for hatred he gave love and for judgement and punishment he granted forgiveness,” he said.

“But the teachers of the law handed him to higher authorities, declared him a criminal and sentenced him to be crucified.” He questioned how it can be a Good Friday when an innocent and sinless person was crucified. “Jesus died to save us by defeating the works of Satan,” he said. “Jesus’ blood is the atonement for our sins and restoration of relationship with God but that was not the end.”

He said on the third day Jesus resurrected from the dead giving us a blessed hope that there was life after death.

Message for Easter

Mr Kumar has a unique message for the readers this year.

“If you are lonely and suffering today, this Easter is yours,” Mr Kumar said.

“Jesus is waiting for you as a friend and Lord to give you hope, life in abundance and eternal life in heaven.”

He said one’s role was to only believe in Jesus.

“So dear friends, lets forgive each other as we are forgiven, resurrected from our dead situations and live, lead and love like Jesus,” he added.
