Members of the Fiji Police Force held their Easter Church Service at the Centenary Methodist Church in Suva.

The church service was attended by officers from the five policing divisions, and more than 200 recruits consisting of officers from the Tuvalu police service. The Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew in his Easter address said, “Easter, in the spiritual sense, is the time that we can die to our old ways of living, and resurrect in to our new lives.

“We have been given this opportunity to redeem ourselves, rebuild trust and bring back the Blue culture”.

The Acting Commissioner went on to say, “What the last 12 months has taught me, is that nothing is certain, and life is unpredictable.

“Our situation can change in a matter of seconds. So as we commemorate the spiritual meaning of Easter, I ask that we come together and recommit ourselves to becoming better versions of ourselves”.

“Recommit to getting rid of the old and bad practices, and getting back to basics of policing, Recommit to being professional and honest and recommit to serving to the best of our ability at all times”.

The Force Chaplain Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Reverend Joeli Mawi while delivering his sermon reflected on the many spiritual lessons that could be drawn from the Resurrection of Jesus Christ three days after his death by crucifixion.

ASP Mawi said the biblical texts tell of the challenges and tribulations faced, which could have been met with resistance, but were instead met with silence, humility and obedience.

ASP Mawi said this was a powerful lesson that police officers could draw from in their line of work, whereby through challenges and negativity, officers must continue to focus on their purpose, do good, stand firm guided by the principles and values of policing, and let their good work speak for itself.

The Force Chaplain said it was important to never compromise one’s values in the face of adversity, and this was another valuable lesson that could be drawn.

The Fiji Police Force wishes everyone a Blessed and safe Easter weekend.
